　The Japan Public Affairs Association (JPAA) is a public policy think-tank established in February 2019 to conduct open discussions with like-minded players for establishing the industry of public affairs in Japan, encouraging the resolution of the social challenges and revitalizing the economy. Hiroya Masuda (former Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, former Governor of Iwate Prefecture) serves the representative director.

　In this opportunity, JPAA is pleased to invite you to “Public Affairs Healthcare Forum 2019”on 18th September in Tokyo. The guest speaker is Mark McClellan, Director and Robert J. Margolis, MD, Professor of Business, Medicine and Policy of Duke University. Dr. McClellan is the first person to have served as both Commissioner of the FDA (2002-2004) and Administrator for the CMS (2004-2006). He won the prestigious Arrow Award twice for outstanding research in Health Economics. Dr. McClellan served as a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors under President George W. Bush and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy under President Bill Clinton. In this forum, Dr McClellan will give us his presentation from his perspective based on his knowledge of US healthcare system.

　With an alarming rise of the social security costs caused by the aging population, we need to aim for the society which can enjoy the benefits of the cutting-edge technologies continuously. We are sure that this event will serve you as a great opportunity to discuss Japan’s future policies and corresponding business strategies and to find solutions for this challenging environment.

　This event will be the first activity of the Healthcare Working Group of JPAA.
